RFID Cloning and SDR Radio Analysis

School - ESGI M1 SI Team of three October 2025 Completed

Exam done as a team of three, combining two physical/radio security disciplines: cloning an RFID/NFC Mifare Classic card, and analyzing a radio signal via SDR (Software Defined Radio). Done together with two classmates, Nagib and Ismael.

Two independent chains covered during the exam: cloning a Mifare Classic card, and capturing/demodulating a radio signal with GNU Radio Companion.

Context

Practical exam from the M1 Information Security curriculum, covering the security of short- and long-range radio technologies. Done as a team of three, with each member contributing to both parts of the exercise.

What was built

  • Cloning of a Mifare Classic card: full dump in .mfd format, compatible with Proxmark and mfoc tooling.
  • A GNU Radio Companion flowgraph built for capturing and demodulating a radio signal on the 433-920 MHz band.
  • SDR hardware (HackRF, RTL-SDR) used for signal reception.
  • A structured submission documenting the methodology for each part of the exercise.

Status
